Ashkenazi
The Chofetz Chaim (Ahavas Chesed II:18) writes that 'first of all, it is good to stipulate at the start of accepting the mitzvah that it is bli neder,' so the practice does not become a binding vow.
Sephardi
Same recommendation; under the minhag classification a bli neder stipulation is likewise advised before beginning.
Chabad
Same recommendation applies.
